For standard one-inch pleated filters, every 30 to 90 days. Make it every 30 if you have pets, allergies or a large household. Thicker high-efficiency media filters, four to five inches, typically run 6 to 12 months. In Acadiana, err on the short side during the long cooling season.

Service the cooling side in spring before the first sustained run, and the heating side in fall before the first cold snap.
